About us
Building on reputation through integrity.
Where it all began
The origins of The P & M Group go back as far as 1947 when Edgar Moon, grandfather of the Group’s current chairman Andy Moon, established a small family-owned cold-room contracting business, Insulated Storage and Display.
Edgar’s son, Peter Moon, followed his father into the business and went on to set up his own business Westward Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Limited. He later purchased ISD himself and when in 1987 he sold Westward to a management buy-out, he retained ownership of ISD Cold Stores and Russell UK and together with his wife Marie they formed a new holding company, The P & M Group Limited, with other companies added subsequently.
Family values underpin our culture and ethos
Peter Moon’s influence continues to be a significant factor in the Group’s culture and thinking. He was an entrepreneur but was much more than a jack of all trades. Understanding the need for a business to have strong financial management, he studied accountancy at night school and became a qualified company accountant. He also appreciated the role of sales and was a better salesperson than most.
One of The P & M Group’s values is ‘Reputation – building on reputation through integrity’ and Peter often quoted Henry Ford’s “you can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do”.
Peter Moon’s vision of what The P & M Group should be was:
‘The first observation of a successful Group of Companies is that it keeps central control to a minimum. It has a clear understanding of its objectives and focuses on customer and market trends.’
For over 30 years, the Group has built a reputation for integrity and fair dealing. This philosophy defines the approach of all the companies, each of which has a high level of independence. By setting standards P & M help to deliver results.
Building on strong foundations
P & M Group, including pipe and tank insulation specialist PLG Insulations in 2016, and cold store installation specialist S Tysoe Installations in 2021. Further contributing to company growth is the launch of Quaytherm Manufacturing, a specialist manufacturing organisation that will commence trading in 2023. The P & M Group employs nearly 200 people, tracing its family-values back to 1947. Indeed, the current chairman is the grandson of company founder Edgar Moon, while the managing director, Tony Wall, has been with the business for decades, holding many junior and senior management positions en route to his current role. As a third-generation company, our core values have provided us with our guiding principles from the outset and our ethos and culture is reflected in our day-to-day operations. At the heart of our business is a commitment to sustainability; we recognise that our social impacts are a key consideration for the Group. Indeed, the United Nations 17 Sustainability Development Goals are focused on social equity, justice and health for all. For The P & M Group, this starts with our employees and what is important or material to them as well as to the business. Health, safety, security, and well-being were all identified as being vitally important. Our ethos is to work collaboratively with our clients, partners, suppliers and our wider community. Our clients and suppliers are part of our value chain as well as our supply chains operating in the construction sector.
